Colombo FC outplay Blue Star 2-0

9 February, 2020

Colombo Football Club who played their first match in the City Football League President’s Cup recorded a fine 2-0 win over Blue Star Sports Club, Kalutara at the City League ground yesterday.

Both teams played quality soccer from the kick-off up to the first 25 minutes. Colombo FC got ahead when they scored a goal off the boot of Kanishka Perera who put the finishing touches to a good move.

The boys from Kalutara did their best to find the equalizer by penetrating the defence by Colombo FC but their attempts at goal failed to find the target.

Colombo FC increased on their lead when M. Sarwan sent a neat pass to Sri Lanka national skipper and main striker MNM Fazal who found the net in the 40th minute.

With these two goals Colombo FC took the lead at lemons.

Despite the Kalutara team playing attacking soccer with good passes after lemons, Colombo FC concentrated on their defence with the intention of maintaining their lead.

The final 15 minutes saw Colombo FC launch some good offensive moves but failed to find the net.

Colombo FC striker Sarwan Johar was given marching orders from the referee for rough play. He was warned twice during the match and will not be allowed to play again according to tournament rules.
