Sri Lanka spinner Sachithra Senanayake announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect.

“I have informed Sri Lanka Cricket of my decision to retire from all forms of international cricket with immediate effect. I wish to thank each and everyone who stood by me and supported me over the years,” Senanayake said in a statement.

The 34-year old claimed 53 ODI wickets and 25 T/20 wickets during his career.

Senanayake last represented Sri Lanka in a T/20 against Australia in Colombo in September 2016.

He has been playing competitive domestic cricket since then excelling as an all-rounder.

He also played for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL in 2013 who bought him for $650,000.

Senanayake also played a key role in Sri Lanka’s World T/20 win in 2014.(KR)
