Butani Capital did well in their first ever appearance at the Mercantile Basketball Championship as they ended as the second best team while Allianz Insurance took away the F Division trophy.

Butani Capital led by Lasitha Liyanage, played against three other companies in their league matches.

They played against Allianz Insurance, AIA Sri Lanka and Design Group Five, winning two out of the three matches with scores of (39-21), (49-41) and (67- 34) respectively.

Butani Capital having qualified for the semi-finals, battled their way to victory against CWT Globelink scoring 61-29 with the Player of the Game being achieved by both Roshan Francisco and Ganesh Shiyamnesh in the run up to the final against Alliance Insurance.

Coach Thusitha Yatigammana played an integral part preparing and guiding the team to the final with his years of experience, as a player, referee and coach.

After an exciting match between the teams fighting for the title, Butani Capital became runners-up team with a score of 61-46.

With the experience gained in the tournament, the Butani Capital basketball team is now looking forward to participating in the next MSBA 2020 tournament later this year.
