Most needed Badminton school to reopen

16 February, 2020

Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) is once again ready to reopen their Badminton School at the Badminton Association Stadium at Maitland Place.

This school was first opened in the 1980s period and was not continued on a regular basis. However, it was highly successful as most of the national players began their career by attending this school.

Former national players like Duminda Jayakody, Thushara Edirisinghe and Kaushali Dissanayake had learnt the game at this badminton school. The coaching and promotion committee secretary Lalith Perera said that they are very keen to start this badminton school again so that they can coach the beginners to reach national level.

The lessons will be conducted every Saturday and Sunday from 6.30 am to 12.30 pm under qualified coaches. Perera is confident they can produce good players in the future too. Meanwhile, registration of badminton coaches will commence soon. All affiliates have been notified about this by the Secretary Coaching and Promotion Committee of SLB. This is a good move to recognize the coaches by SLB.

Sri Lanka Badminton presided by Rohan de Silva has already made arrangements to develop players at this school. Most of the shuttlers get their guidance from coaches but qualified coaches are very limited all over the country.
