Ten-man Saunders held to a draw as Colombo enter President’s Cup semis

16 February, 2020

Colombo Football Club became the first team to reach the semi-finals of the ongoing City Football League President’s Cup Championship when they held Saunders SC to a scoreless draw at the City League ground yesterday.

With this draw they remain unbeaten in the championship.

The first session was evenly contested with both teams trying their best to go ahead. But all their efforts were foiled with both custodians excelling between the posts. Saunders SC had four opportunities at scoring but the Colombo FC custodian was brilliant between the posts.

Colombo FC too made may inroads by penetrating the defence of Saunders but they failed to find the net.

Saunders SC skipper was given marching orders by the referee just four minutes before half time.

With just ten men Saunders SC put on a gallant show in the second half taking full control and attacking from the beginning.

If not for the brilliant goal keeping by the Colombo FC custodian Saunders SC would have ended up scoring three goals.
