JVP to contest parliamentary polls under NPP

8 March, 2020

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) will contest the upcoming General election under the banner of the National People’s Power (NPP), a front of 28 organisations led by the JVP formed during the last Presidential election.

JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the party will field candidates in all districts under the NPP banner. According to Dissanayake, NPP candidates will be educated, principled and untainted by fraud and corruption.

Dissanayake told the media on Friday that a strong opposition is needed to stand against anti-democratic moves of the government. He said that the people have complaints against parliamentarians.

“The people have an opportunity to cleanse Parliament,” he said. According to Dissanayake, the public should elect principled politicians. “A group untainted by corruption, fraud and crime must be elected to Parliament,” he said.
