Heavy rains forecast

The Meteorology Department issued a Special Advisory for heavy rain, forecasting very heavy falls above 200 mm in some regions of the country on May 28.

The Department also said that the prevailing showery condition in the South-Western part of the country, particularly in the Southern, Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces, is expected to continue further.
Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organization issued a landslide alert for several districts.

The alert is applicable to the Divisional Secretariats of Ratnapura District (Eheliyagoda, Kuruwita, Ratnapura, Kalawana, Opanayake, Balangoda, Pelmadulla and Nivithigala), Kegalle district (Deraniyagala, Dehiowita, Bulathkohupitiya and Yatiyantota) and Nuwara Eliya district (Ambagamuwakorale).

The NBRO also requested the public in the Divisional Secretariats of Ratnapura District (Elapatha, Ayagama, Kiriella, Godakawela, Kahawatta and Kolonna), Kegalle district (Aranayaka, Galigamuwa, Kegalle, Rambukkana and Mawanella), Kandy District (Gangaihalakorale), Galle District (Neluwa), Matara District (Kotapola) and Kalutara District (Horana and Ingiriya), to stay watchful for possible landslides.
