Fast bowler Shehan Madushanka who made a sensational debut by capturing three wickets in three balls when he played his first ODI which was against Bangladesh in 2018, has been suspended by Sri Lanka Cricket from all forms of the game as he faces prosecution and legal proceedings for possession of illegal drugs.

Police arrested the 25-year old Madushanka for possession of heroin near his home town in Pannala when they stopped his car for a routine check on Monday.

“The decision to suspend (Madushanka) will remain intact until a full inquiry is conducted by SLC into the matter,” Sri Lanka Cricket said in a media statement.

Madushanka has not worn the Sri Lanka colours since the tour of Bangladesh in 2018 after an injury forced him out of the scene.

According to Police, Madushanka will be kept in remand custody for 14 days before he will appear in court.

Sri Lanka Cricket has said in the past that it will come down hard on players who breach the disciplinary code or get into trouble with the Law as they are viewed as role models.
