GMOA appoints five-member committee

14 June, 2020

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has appointed a five-member committee to study the new approach on private medical education, GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said.

According to Dr. Aluthge, the committee will present a full report after seeking opinions and suggestions from all its branches.

The initial report of the committee will be presented at the next Central Committee Meeting and the final report will be presented in two months.

Dr. Aluthge said making and breaking Governments was largely due to the SAITM issue in the past. Sri Lankans had bitter memories and experiences on private medical faculties such as SAITM and the Colombo North Medical Faculty.

The GMOA has declared its stand clearly on private medical education. It has stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of patients’ lives while ensuring the students’ right to study.
