The NEWSPAPER, a film produced by award winning veteran film producer, Higher Education, Technology and Innovation Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardana will be screened from July 2, 2020.
It will be open to the public to enjoy films after about four months of lockdown and confined to their homes with televisions.
A meeting was held at the Sri Lanka Film Corporation whether to permit cinemas to screen films with the easing of the Coronavirus, as many of those present were reluctant to open cinemas. Dr. Bandula Gunawardana who had been associated with the film industry from 1985, won the first Sarasaviya Award for his film, Suddalage Kathava in 1986 and the best film award for Sirimedura in 1990.
Minister Gunawardana had decided to issue tickets free to those who worked tirelessly during the outbreak of Covid-19.
Those in the film industry held a meeting with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on Friday to discuss the future of the industry.
