Over 1400 persons sent for quarantine, for not wearing masks

30 June, 2020

It was reported that 1,441 people have been sent for self-quarantine for failing to wear face masks as per the recommendations of the health authorities.

They have been caught within the last 12 hours ending at 6 am this morning.

However, Police Media Spokesman SSP Jaliya Senaratne said that although it is mandatory to wear face masks in public, the police have been instructed to advice the public to wear face masks in public and follow other health guidelines.

On Saturday the police issued a warning that it was mandatory to wear face masks in public.  The mandatory face mask requirement and self-quarantine was implemented from Sunday.

These guidelines have been set as the coronavirus threat still looms globally despite Sri Lanka successfully controlling the spread within the country.
