Archaeological sites, monuments re-opens today

All archaeological sites, monuments, museums and galleries in Sri Lanka, which were temporarily closed due to the Coronavirus outbreak, will be reopened for local tourists from today.

Buddhasasana, Cultural and Religious Affairs Ministry Secretary M.K. Bandula Harischandra made this announcement in a press release.

The Ministry said restrictions and safety measures based on the health guidelines issued by the Health Ministry will be imposed by the Department of Archaeology, Central cultural Fund, Department of National Museum, and Department of National Archives on tourists.

The Ministry requested the public to cooperate with the relevant officials.

He said the decision to open these premises has been taken on the advice of the President and the Prime Minister keeping the current situation in mind.

The Museums will be open from 9 am to 4 pm and visitors are requested to follow the guidelines issued by health authorities.
