DIMO Agribusinesses expands footprint

DIMO Agribusinesses, the agriculture arm of DIMO, opened its third Agri Techno Park in Lindula recently.

Located  on the Hatton-Nuwara Eliya main road, this 25 acre multi-purpose property is equipped with  cultivation tunnels, mushroom and vegetable production/processing facilities, a well-equipped tissue culture laboratory and a dry and cold storage.

Having ventured into the Agri inputs market, DIMO Agribusinesses set up these Agri Techno parks as collection, processing and storage hubs to enter into the value adding business in the agriculture sector.

Chairman and Managing Director of DIMO, Ranjith Pandithage said, “A few decades ago, DIMO entered the agriculture sector introducing agriculture machinery to the local market and a few years ago we ventured into the agriculture inputs market. There is immense potential for the agriculture sector in Sri Lanka.”

General Manager, Agriculture Special Projects of DIMO, Priyanga Dematawa said, “The park will commence seed production, hybrid seed production, tissue culture plant production, mushroom production, production of vegetables, fruits, flowers and tea production soon.” 

DIMO Agribusinesseshopes to develop a network of outgrowers in the region through the famer community to cultivate fruits and vegetables. 

The company will collect the harvest from the outgrower network for value addition and will produce the final products for local and international markets, he said.

Plans are also under way to tie up with reputed foreign partners to strengthen the research and development process of these Agri Techno Parks.
