BIA re-opening on hold

13 July, 2020

The re-opening of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) is most likely to be postponed due to the prevailing situation in the country and a final decision will be taken after discussions with health authorities, Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.

He said meanwhile, a decision was taken to temporarily halt the repatriation of overseas employees to the island due to the lack of accommodation facilities in the Quarantine Centers.

This will be in effect from tomorrow (14) and will resume soon after the situation come back to normalcy. Ranatunge stated this speaking to media at Biyagama yesterday.

He said nearly 12,000 overseas employees have been brought back to the country so far and he assured that the government will take action to repatriate all overseas Sri Lankan employees to the country in compliance with health guidelines.
