Major General twins to enter ‘Guinness Book’

Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva together with the twin, Major Generals Pooraka Seneviratne and Jayantha Seneviratne at the ceremony.

Twin Major Generals Pooraka Seneviratne and Jayantha Seneviratne formally ceremonially forwarded their names to be entered in the Guinness Book of World Records yesterday morning (30) at the Army Headquarters.

Chief Guest Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva together with the Sri Lanka’s representatives for the records, Saman Amarasinghe, Chairman, National Steering Council, Guinness World Records at the Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry and Senior Army Officers witnessed the historic event.

Twin Major Generals Pooraka Seneviratne of the Signal Corps, Chief of Staff, Office of the Chief of Defence Staff and Jayantha Seneviratne of the Sinha Regiment, Commander, Security Forces - West and Colonel of the Sinha Regiment, only twin soldiers in the Army, entered the school together, studied up to the Advanced Level in the same class and served as school prefects, did sports, enlisted together, commissioned on the same day, followed foreign courses in Quetta in the same syndicate, received simultaneous promotions and are set to retire on the same day. The Thursday’s ceremony witnessed the twins signing the documents seeking to qualify for entry into the Guinness Records.

Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva authenticated career documents of the Major Generals and delivered them to the representative of the Guinness World Records. Saman Amarasinghe, awarded two letters of appreciation to the Majors Generals in recognition of their attempt to qualify for the Guinness Records. Major Chief of Staff Major General Jagath Gunawardena, Deputy Chief of Staff Major General Rasika Fernando, Principal Staff Officers and Senior Officers participated.
