Final rallies, polls campaigns end tonight

The final rallies and election campaigns of all political parties and their candidates will conclude at midnight today as stipulated by the Election Commission. Many main political parties will hold their final rallies and meetings in Colombo while the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will hold its final election rally in Palatuwa, Matara with the participation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. Prior to the rally a series of meetings will also be held in Hambantota. Rajapaksa will participate in all meetings, the SLPP stated in a media release. SLPP Chairman Prof. G.L. Peiris and National Organiser Basil Rajapaksa are also due to join the Matara rally along with Hambantota district SLPP candidates.

The United National Party (UNP) will hold its final rally in Maligawatta, according to Deputy leader of the party and Colombo District candidate, Ravi Karunanayake.

The rally will begin at 8 pm and will be attended by the Leader of the UNP, Ranil Wickremesinghe, Deputy Leader Karunanayake and other prominent members of the party.

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) led by its leader Sajith Premadasa will hold its last rally in Colombo Central. The rally will begin at 7 pm.

The National People’s Power (NPP) led by Colombo District NPP candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake will also hold its final campaign rally in Maligawatta.

The rally at 4 pm will be attended by the NPP’s candidates from the Colombo district and other organisations supporting the NPP. Dissanayake will also be present.
