Irrigation Department officer Subashana Jayawardena (59) is critically ill, on the threshold of his retirement, due to kidney failure. Despite hailing from Nugegoda and completing his entire education at Nalanda College, he opted to serve the farmers of the Rajarata. There, he had fallen a victim to the much prevalent kidney disease of the North Central Province.
