St Anne’s, Talawila feast today

2 August, 2020

The feast of St Anne’s Shrine, Thalawila will be held today, August 2, on a low key with the participation of a minimum number of devotees on account of the  outbreak of coronavirus  pandemic.

The Festive High Mass at 7.00 a.m. will be concelebrated by Bishop of Chilaw Rev. Dr. Valence Mendis and Bishop of Batticaloa,Rev. Dr. Joseph Ponnaiah.  There will be a number of Holy Masses today enabling all devotees who come from all corners of the country to participate, church sources said.

This year there will be no stalls, no camping or staying overnight and the event will be a single day devotional ceremony, the sources said. Thalawila Church, a centre of devotion  for many decades, attracts not only Catholics living across the country but also people of other faiths. They  visit the Church, stay for days attending religious ceremonies. But this year it is altogether different and the Church authorities hope if things turn right, they would conduct the feast in a fitting manner, next year.
