Meetings, parades banned for a week

Public meetings and parades are banned until a week after the announcement of the final results of the Parliamentary Elections, the Police Legal Division said.

Police Legal Division Director SSP Ruwan Gunasekara said in terms of Sections 69 and 70 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, the ban will remain in place for a week after all the results of the Parliamentary Elections are released and the final results are declared.

He added that such provisions have been made to further maintain peace after the election. He urged people to adhere with those laws to maintain public peace during the post-election.
