NEC receives over 8,000 complaints

The National Election Commission (NEC) has received over 8,000 complaints related to the recently concluded Parliamentary election yesterday.

The Commission stated the complaints were mostly related to flouting election laws, and more than 7,000 have been reported to the Direct Election Complaints Management Centres.

Around 1000 complaints were made to the National Election Commission Management Centre.

These complaints were received upon the conclusion of the Parliamentary Election 2020, voting started on Wednesday (5) at 7 am and the results were announced on Thursday (6).

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna(SLPP) emerged victorious with a landslide win while the United National Party (UNP) suffered a historic defeat.

The UNP's breakaway faction, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya(SJB) as a new party performed better than the UNP, under the leadership of Sajith Premadasa.
