Hostile forces defeated at election – Prasanna

10 August, 2020

Gampaha District Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’ (SLPP) leader Prasanna Ranatunga said that all hostile forces to the country were utterly defeated at the General Election on August 5, and there was no room for further conspiracies against the country under the Gotabhaya-Mahinda Government.

He was speaking at a welcoming ceremony in Kehelbaddara in Minuwangoda yesterday. Ranatunga said that the new Government will elevate the country to the top of the world and the next five years will be a golden era of development for the country.

"The victory at the General Election is historic. The people were asked to give a majority of 500,000 votes from the Gampaha District to elect 13 members. The people have responded convincingly to our request. I supported Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2015 and made a promise to the people that Mahinda Rajapaksa will be brought back to the leadership of the country. Mahinda Rajapaksa became the Prime Minister of this country again on the mandate of the people. He is a people's leader, “ Ranatunga said.

“Many with the Yahapalana government were rejected at this election. The United National Party (UNP) and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) in the Yahapalana government have dissolved today. People have great faith in President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The General Election further strengthened the mandate given to the SLPP at the last Presidential Election,” he added.

“Now development of the country is our priority. The Mahinda-Gota alliance that ended the three-decade war can achieve this goal before long. The people have given us a government with a two thirds majority for that goal. We will never back down from this mandate. We protect the trust of the people with our lives. We are ushering in a new era of development and justice. Elections are over. This is the working time. We invite you to join us. “he said.
