Betsy’s last chance at a forever home

23 August, 2020

A mother’s love is unconditional and that is why it’s been so hard to separate and rehome Betsy and her two kittens because whenever I find individual homes for them, they are miserable without each other. I eventually found a home for both the kittens but that was a nightmare as the family that adopted them had not even fed them properly and both kittens were traumatised when I brought them back home.

Betsy was rescued in March 2020 just before curfew from a yard in Peliyagoda She couldn’t nurse her kittens and was finding it difficult to eat. After treatment with a vet and meds Betsy started eating and got much stronger. Today, Betsy is a little ball and eats 24/7. Both her kittens are males and are around five months old. They are very fond of one another. One kitten has only one eye due to a birth defect. Betsy is around two years and is very loving. She has been sterilised. All three of them are dewormed and vaccinated for rabies and tricat.

I wish I could adopt them but I’m unable to as I have rescued dogs who attack cats and because of this I have to lock Betsy and her kittens all day inside rooms and kennels. No animal deserves to live a miserable life being caged like this. I have appealed so much but have not been able to find a home. Times are tough now and as I take care of around 80-90 strays I’m finding it hard to cope. Even though it’s heartbreaking I may have to leave them back at the horrible yard I found them in as I’m unable to foster them anymore.

I’m so sad. All my siblings got adopted and I have been appealing for over 6 months now and yet no one wants to adopt me. I’m now around 10 months old. Maybe it’s because I’m skinny or maybe it’s because I’m female or maybe it’s because I’m not as pretty as my siblings. It’s sad that no one realises how gentle and loving I am. No one understands the harsh life us stray dogs live. No one understands how we yearn to be loved in a home. I suffered so much without food during curfew and I’m alone now in a yard at Peliyagoda. I miss my family. But I know that they are loved in a home and so I’m happy for them. But I wish my dream of a home will come true. I’m dewormed and vaccinated (including the booster shots) for Parvo, distemper and rabies. I will be sterilised soon. If you would like to make my wish come true and adopt me please call Sahana on 0777567122. Transport can be arranged.
