Classes for students of Grade 10,11,12 and 13 in Government schools are scheduled to be held from 7.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. However, an Education Ministry Circular has instructed all principals that schools have to be open only from 7.30 to 1.30 p.m. from September 2, states Kurunegala District Senior Director of Education W.M. Balasooriya.
He was speaking at a meeting of school heads of the Kurunegala District held in Kurunegala yesterday.
“It has been revealed that that there has been a drop in students’ school attendance due to the continuous closure of school canteens and the inability of students to attend tuition classes after school hours due to the longer time duration of schools that is in effect,” the Circular states.
