A herd of wild elephants invades the coastal areas of Ampara District every day after sunset, residents complained. They added that the herd damages coconut cultivations, paddy fields, and other property.

Residents also said that wild elephants often chase farmers out of their fields and attack travellers during evenings and nights, especially commuters who use the Karaitivu – Sammanthurai Road and Allimullai – Sammanthurai Road.

They urged the authorities to find a solution to this issue immediately so that people would not have to live in fear and use firecrackers to drive away wild elephants all the time.
