NBRO issues landslide warning

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued a Level 2 (Amber) landslide early warning for parts of Galle and Kalutara districts. The warnings state that since rainfall has exceeded 100mm during the last 24 hours, and due to the continues downpour, people living in these districts have been cautioned of the possibility of landslides, slope failures, rock falls, ground subsidence. The NBRO issued an Amber alert Landslide warnings in the following areas.
 
  • Galle District
Elpitiya,Nagoda and Baddegama Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas.
 
  • Kalutara District
Palindanuwara Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas.
 
 
Yellow alerts have been issued for the following areas.
 
  • Galle District
Niyagama Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas.
 
  • Kalutara District 
Mathugama, Walallawita, Ingiriya, Agalawatta, Horana and Bulathsinhala Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas.
 
  • Kegalle District 
Dehiowita and Yatiyanthota Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas.
 
  • Ratnapura District 
 Eheliyagoda Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas.
 
NBRO has warned that should residents see development of cracks, ground subsidence, slanting of trees, cracks on floors built on slopes, sudden appearance of springs or muddy water should alert the authorities.
