Missing crew member of crude oil tanker confirmed dead

Sri Lanka Navy (SLN), Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard are currently engaged in a joint effort to control the fire raging in the oil tanker, caused by an explosion of a boiler in the main engine room, said the SLN.

One of the crew members of the oil tanker ‘MT New Diamond’ is confirmed dead, he was reported missing following the fire that erupted in the Panama-registered oil tanker yesterday, the Sri Lanka Navy said.

The Indian vessel New Diamond, which is a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), was heading to the port of Paradip in India. It had sailed from Mina-Al-Ahmadi in Kuwait. The fire had erupted in the engine room of the vessel and was raging by last evening.
