The Olympic Games

The Olympic Games are held worldwide and is very popular. It was held in Athens, Greece in 776 for the first time to honour the Greek God Zeus. Many centuries ago, the Greek men participated in the games but women were not permitted. Games were held once in every four years.

Now, the Olympic Games are held in big cities around the world. Today women also participate in the games. The aim is to promote world peace. The winners are awarded valuable prizes and medals. You find five interlaced rings on a white background in the Olympic flag. It represents the five continents. The Olympic Games give an important message to the world, ‘Not to win, but to take part.’
