The nine-member Committee tasked with studying the 20th Amendment to the Constitution will meet tomorrow.
The Committee’s report will be submitted to the next Cabinet meeting on September 16.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa appointed this nine-member Committee to study and report on opinions and views expressed with regard to the 20th Amendment.
Education Minister Prof.G.L.Peiris told the media that it was discussed at the last Cabinet meeting as to why the 20th Amendment would be introduced to the country.
However, this would not be the final step. The Government intends to draft a completely new Constitution to the country, he said.
