Cabinet has approved around Rs.3.152 billion to print free school textbooks for next year, Kurunegala District Senior Education Director W.M. Balasooriya said. He was speaking at a meeting of school principals held at Bingiriya Youth Training Centre, yesterday.
About 400 varieties of textbooks are to be printed under this allocation. The State Printing Corporation is to print 13,890,000 copies of 106 different textbooks, Balasooriya said.The Government has allocated a sum of Rs.1.093 billion to the State Printing Corporation for this endeavour. Meanwhile, the private sector will print textbooks worth Rs.2.059 billion, he added.
