Country marks 100 days without local COVID-19 case - Pavithra

17 September, 2020

No COVID-19 patient was found in Sri Lankan open society during the past 100 days. We should get used to the ‘New Normal’ in order to maintain this victory, Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said.

The Minister was speaking at the launch of the publicity programme, ‘Towards a new normal’ at the Health Ministry yesterday.

Minister Wanniarachchi said that the main objective of this programme is to remind people about the country’s success in containing the COVID-19 pandemic and the importance of following all health guidelines at all times in order to maintain the current COVID-19 free status in the Sri Lankan open society.

Minister Wanniaradchchi pointed out that the public should extend their maximum support towards protecting the country and the people against COVID-19 by following all health guidelines. They are wearing a mask in public, always maintaining at least one metre distance from another person, washing hands with soap and water for 30 seconds often and using a sanitizer when soap and water is not available.

The programme is funded by the ‘Itukama’ Fund with technical assistance by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA).
