Archery to recommence

The Archery Federation has planned to conduct their National championship in November this year after cancelling many tournaments during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Junior Nationals will follow in December and the Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held today according to the Association.

Meanwhile, the Federation hopes to promote archery throughout the country and will hold discussions with the officials of the Education Department to take the sport to schools.

Education Department officials have already agreed with the idea to spread the sport among school children as soon as possible. Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa has also agreed to offer scholarships to children who take to archery according to the Federation.

Archery is an Olympic event and famous around the world. Sri Lanka is placed 86 in the world rankings way behind India who are eighth and Bangladesh 16th. (KI)
