Several complaints have been made against the Sri Lanka Body Building and Fitness Federation which is still struggling to hold an election of office bearers over the legality of its affiliated district associations.
In a written complaint the former secretary of the Federation, Nihal Weeratunga, has brought it to the notice of the Sports Ministry’s director general Amal Edirisooriya that the district associations are unauthorized by violating their own Constitutions.
It has been pointed out that only six of the 17 district associations are legally constituted and are eligible to vote at an election.
Edirisooriya has now directed the presidents and secretaries of all affiliated clubs to report to the Sports Minister on Tuesday for explanations on the matter and their activities. The Sri Lanka Body Building and Fitness Federation which was formed in 1974 is also in trouble for failing to meet the August 31 deadline to conduct its election of office bearers.
District associations including Colombo, Jaffna and Kurunegala have formed two entities and some of the districts are not even registered with the parent body according to the complaint.
An official of the Sports Ministry said that a meeting has been called for on September 29 to decide on the eligibility of district associations with voting rights. According to the new Constitution of the Federation there are 25 district and affiliated associations eligible for the election.
The Referees Association, Coaches Association and Masters Association also take part in the election.
