The monsoon or rainy season lasts from July to September. Dark clouds often cover the sky. The monsoon winds bring plenty of rain. The weather is cool, humid and windy. Rains fill rivers, ponds, lakes, wells and streams with water which can be used to irrigate crops. At times, there is lightning and loud thunder with sudden rain. These are thunderstorms and they seldom last long. We use raincoats, umbrellas and gumboots to go in the rain during the monsoon and rainy season. Heavy storms may cause floods and damage our roads, crops, buildings and endanger lives.
