Mahinda College left hand batsman Navod Paranavithana is the youngest cricketer at age 18 to be picked for the upcoming Lanka Premier League (LPL) T20 tournament.

He was picked into the Colombo Kings squad to be what is called a Supplementary Local.

Under the Supplementary Local category a total of 92 players were included in the bidding or auction list comprising domestic club cricketers and Emerging players.

Paranavithana became a sensation last year when he hammered 409 with 39 fours and 19 sixes in an inter-school match against Dharmasoka College.

He also represented Sri Lanka Under-19 against Bangladesh, West Indies and in the Youth World Cup in South Africa.

Paranavithana had earlier set up a record by becoming the first player in school cricket history to score over 1000 runs in both Under-13 and Under-15 levels.

He represented Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club at the last inter club First Class season after making 108 against England Under-19 in the final of the Tri-Nation tournament in the West Indies in December 2019.(YK)
