Ex-football coach Pakeer Ali in charge of Bangladesh Police team

Former head coach of the Sri Lanka national soccer team Nizam Pakeer Ali has bagged an appointment as the head coach of the Bangladesh Police FC.

Police FC gained promotion to their Premier League for the very first time in the club’s history after emerging champions in the 2018-19 Bangladesh Championships League.

The appointment of the experienced Pakeer Ali was offered after much consideration on the background of his playing and coaching abilities. He has played in Bangladesh before and also coached for some time earlier. Now Police FC is hopeful that with his experience the team will improve in the higher division.

Packeer Ali is a former Sri Lankan player who made his debut in 1976 for Colombo York FC. He later went on to captain the National side during the 1980s.

He hails from Matale and is one of the most experienced football coaches in the country and started his professional coaching career as the head coach of Abahani Sports Club, Bangladesh in 1995. He has also functioned as the head coach for many local and foreign clubs in Bangladesh, India and the Maldives.

He obtained his AFC ‘A’ License Coaching Certificate in 2008 and was the head coach of the National Youth Team from 2003 to 2007 and also served as the Technical Director at the Football Federation of Sri Lanka from 2012-14. (TBR)
