Former Royal boxer elected volleyball head

Former Royal College boxer and Volleyball Federation vice president Mahinda Herath Bandara was elected the president of the Colombo District Volleyball Association at their AGM held at the Sports Ministry Auditorium recently.

Bandara played a key role in promoting the national sport of volleyball when he served as vice president of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB) for a period of ten years. He was instrumental in enticing Dialog to sponsor the President’s Gold Cup Volleyball Championship since 2005.

Last week he had the chance to inspect the newly built Volleyball House in Dadalla, Galle and made arrangements for players to have facilities under the guidance of the Sports Ministry.

Bandara also represented Royal College in football, cricket and athletics winning laurels in boxing and captaining the school in 1991.

He served in top positions in government institutions including Managing Director of the National Youth Services Council, Director of Sri Lanka Telecom and Director of Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau.

The following office-bearers were elected to the Colombo District Volleyball Association.
