AOC and Ilhan Omar’s Among Us Twitch Stream coronates them as Official Gamer Royalty

Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN) spent October 20 meeting some voters where they are: on Twitch, the platform that lets gamers stream their sessions to the public. She and Omar played the popular multiplayer game Among Us with a who’s who of big-name streamers Tuesday night in an effort to get out the vote. AOC’s following has already surpassed those of President Donald Trump and Senator Bernie Sanders.

On Tuesday, the New York congresswoman took to Twitter to invite users to stream Among Us after her initial tweet about the popular game went viral. Ocasio-Cortez’s initial tweet a day prior apparently sparked interest among some of Twitch’s most popular gamers, many of whom joined her on Tuesday. The stream is currently clocking in at almost 4.8 million views.

According to CNN, her debut stream lasted for more than three hours and picked up over 4.5 million views. She stressed the importance of voter turnout and used the time to encourage people to head to IWillVote.com, telling streamers, “That’s really what tonight’s all about, and of course we are here to vote blue.” She and fellow players discussed having a plan to vote all while participating in one of the 20 biggest streams in Twitch history, according to metrics site TwitchTracker.
