Wushu targets Asian medal

15 November, 2020

A pool of Wushu players are hard at training with the intention of winning their first medal in the Asian circuit in 2022.

Speaking to the Sunday Observer Manel Dharmakeerthi the President of the Sri Lanka Wushu Federation (SLWF) said that fifteen players are training in Ratnapura. He said that they have also won medals at the World Wushu Championship, Sanda World Cup, World Kungfu Championship, Asian Wushu Championship and the South Asian Wushu Championships.

“If we can win a medal in the Asian Games it will be a great achievement. It is for this reason that we have formed an elite pool and are in Ratnapura,” added Dharmakeerthi.

The elite pool has four girls and the Asian Games will be held in China in 2022. They also hope to get a foreign coach for the build up. The World Wushu Championship will be held next year in the USA and Sri Lanka hopes to participate.(KI)
