Low pressure area formed over southeast Bay of Bengal

A low pressure area has formed over southeast Bay of Bengal (2N-10N, 83E-93E) and it is expected to intensify further into a depression during next 24-48 hours. It is likely to move west-northwestwards towards Eastern and Northern coast of Sri Lanka on 24th of November, stated the Department of Meteorology.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Eastern, Northern, Northen-central and Uva provinces and in Hambantota District.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at few places in the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kalutara, Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m.

Fairly heavy showers above 75mm can be expected at some places in the above area.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
