Remain indoors this festive season - Chief Epidemiologist

6 December, 2020

It is advisable to remain indoors this festive season and celebrate the spirit of Christmas with the family to prevent the spread of the pandemic, Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said.

He said December is a festive month for the entire world and for Sri Lankans it is a time for shopping and celebrations. People should support the Government’s Covid-19 control measures by refraining from gathering at shopping malls and celebrations.

Dr. Samaraweera said that even while going out to purchase essentials people should follow health guidelines to control the spread of the disease.

“People should wear masks and keep at least a one and half meter distance from each other. This should apply for public transport as well. In addition people should wash hands with soap and use a hand sanitiser whenever soap and water are not available. People should follow respiratory etiquette (cough/sneeze into your elbow). The elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, kidney and heart diseases should be at home, he added.
