The National Athletic Championship has paved the way for Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) to pick their best 41 athletes to form the Elite and National pools and keep them ready to face international competitions this year.
There is a surprise omission of Dilhani Lekamge the javelin thrower SAG gold medallist, Asian Championship silver medallist and Commonwealth Games finalist, from both pools despite being in the Elite Pool going into the championship.
Several athletes like Lekamge could not do much training most of last year due to the COVID-19 restrictions and could not perform well. Some opted out from competing due to lack of preparation. The next National pool update will be following the National trials to be held in March this year.(TBR)
