Sri Pada season begins

The annual pilgrimage to the most Sacred Sri padasthanya, which is believed to hold the left footprint of the Buddha, began on December 29, on Uduwap Poya day. The re-opening began under strict health guidelines. The Government has taken precautions to prevent the spread of Covid-19 among pilgrims.

The Nuwara Eliya District Secretary has warned against coming to Sri Pada from lockdown and vulnerable areas.

Sri Padasthana Chief Incumbent, Sabaragamu Palath Chief Sanghanayaka, Uva Wellassa University Chancellor Ven. Bengamuwe Dammadinna Nayaka Thera requested the people to observe health guidelines to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Pepiliyana Sunethradevi Piriven Vihara Chief Incumbent Dr.Medagoda Abhayatissa Thera delivered the main sermon at the first Buddha pooja at Uda Maluwa at 6.00am on the Poya Day

Devabharana were carried to Uda Maluwa with the help of the Army. Most shops are not expected to re-open during the season.
