Saunders player Niresh out of football squad

17 January, 2021

Saunders SC forward and National cap Sundaraj Niresh has been removed from the national football squad of 22 players for allegedly leaving the residential training camp without prior approval from the team management.

Now the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) will also conduct an inquiry on the matter. Niresh has been replaced by Asela Madushan of Sea Hawks FC.

The 22-man squad resumed training on January 7 with a view to preparing for the remaining World Cup qualifiers.

Niresh was noted to be a most exciting player seen in the country in many years.

He played a vital role for Saunders SC in the FFSL President’s Cup tournament and also scored many goals for Saunders SC in the history of the FA Cup.

Former skipper M. Fazal had also faced an inquiry last September and lost his captaincy and place in the squad. (TBR)
