Royal Nursing Home (Pvt) Ltd which introduced a luxury elders’ home in 2007, plans to invest US $ 7.5 million to build a six-storey luxury elders’ home in Pannipitiya and generate foreign exchange.

The founding chairman of the company, Manuja Hewawasam said that the home will be constructed on an acre of land facing High Level Road in Pannipitiya and will have approval of the Board of Investment.

He said that the proposed nursing home will have 100,000 sq. ft. of space and be in line with international elderly healthcare standards. It will have 200 luxurious air-conditioned rooms, with attached bathrooms and balcony along with a wellness centre, swimming pool, gym, indoor and outdoor garden, library, geriatric consultant medical center, physiotherapy center, pharmacy, medical equipment outlet, a large lounge, and a small movie theatre with an air-conditioned restaurant that serves buffet style meals.

Hewawasam said with the increase in the number of the Sri Lankans moving their children abroad and with the increase in Sri Lanka’s aging population, the demand for geriatric care is also increasing. “Our target audience is to provide accommodation for senior citizens from the upper middle class and foreign senior citizens.”
