This is not the kind of ‘fitness fixing’ that is the talk of the town these days. What started off as a bunch of friends getting fit turned into a growing program of athletic training and wellness for both the average Joe and high-performance athletes.

It is called Dropit fitness that was conceived by three college friends, Devind Pathmanathan former captain of the Royal College cricket team and currently a first-class cricketer, Heshan Nanayakkara a badminton coloursman and Devaka Kumarasinghe a senior oarsman for Royal College.

Then splashed in Gayani Gunasekara former captain of the National swimming team and Megara Wijemanne a senior oarswoman for Musaeus College joining the Dropit team to serve the cause of functional fitness for the community.

During their last year of school, friends used to go to Devind and ask for schedules for both fat loss and increasing their fitness. Devind who had been training as an athlete for many years had the experience to recommend an explosive regiment designed to make a person sweat.

Then during the recent pandemic, prodded by a few friends he was persuaded into starting an online fitness program that served as means for friends to get together and stay motivated with a collective effort of keeping up with their fitness. Slowly but surely these small intimate sessions grew into a small business with an increasing clientele all with the ethos of fostering a healthy community. Promoting the value of physical fitness to a healthy lifestyle.

Unlike many other training programs Dropit welcomes anyone and from all age groups, whether they can afford it or not as it is beneficial training for everyone and they hope to attract athletes who cannot afford regular training on the market.

The primary focus of Dropit training is on Speed and Agility, Strength and Conditioning, Fat loss and High intensity Interval training. They also offer corporate programs with education on nutrition and functional fitness in addition to training packages. Dropit currently offers both online sessions and conducts outdoor training on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Havelock Sports Ground from 6.30pm onwards.

“My main objective is to get running into their system, to give them the tools and basics to carry on their training, with or without a coach,” says Devind.

In the modern day, we have lost sight of the importance of cardio and of running and that it is surprising to find some people who don’t know how to run. We were born to run and Dropit aims to bring this fit lifestyle back to the community as they believe it is their duty to bring back health into the equation.
