The Inauguration of the 46th President of the United States of America

7 February, 2021

The Presidential inauguration at the United States Capitol, is the start of the four-year term of Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. as the 46th President of the United States of America and Kamala Harris as the nation’s first female, African and Asian American Vice president. This long-awaited day was celebrated by a great majority of American citizens as well as many other nations around the world.

Although the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the recent attacks on the Capitol Hill forced the celebrations to be restricted by strict health guidelines and security measures, family, friends and well-wishers gathered joyously to witness Joe Biden and Kamala Harris take their oaths as the next President and Vice president of the United States.

It included celebrities such as Lady Gaga, who started the inauguration by patriotically singing the National Anthem and Jennifer Lopez who sang the songs This Land Is Your Land and America the Beautiful.

The sense of long-awaited unity and harmony for all Americans was further strengthened by the nation’s first ever youth poet laureate, Amanda Gorman’s presentation of her inspiring poem, The Hill We Climb, through which she called for a restoration of democracy, peace and justice throughout the country.
