Steinwall likely to take over reins of women’s football team

7 February, 2021

Former national football player Dudley Steinwall is likely to be appointed as the new head coach of the women’s national team. This appointment will be made by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) to replace former coach Thilak Aponsu.

According to an official of the FFSL several names have been submitted to fill in the vacant position. Among them is the former coach of Defenders FC.

After the dismal performance at the 2019 South Asian Games the women’s team have been left without a coach with the FFSL not extending the contract of Thilak Aponsu.

With Steinwall coming in there is some excitement surrounding the women’s team. They are also set to resume training after a lapse of 14 months.

Holder of an AFC A license certificate, Steinwall has spent over ten years coaching both at club and international level.

The experienced coach has also guided the Sri Lanka men’s team in 2016 and ’17 before he was handed over the national under-23 team in 2014. (TBR)
