Anika Seneviratne clinched the Women’s Open singles title at the 105th Colombo Open Tennis Tournament when she defeated Savini Jayasuriya in the final played at the SLTA Courts at Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha yesterday.

The favourite rallied around through her experience and went on to beat her opponent in a hard fought three-setter 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 in the final.

Meanwhile, Vibuda Wijebandara and Savith Weerasinghe won the Men’s Open doubles title following a gruelling three-setter against Chathurya Nilaweera and Thehan Wijemanne in the final.

Vibuda and Savith, after conceding the opening set 6-7, came back magnificently to win the second set 6-4 and the deciding third and final set 10-7 in an exciting tie-breaker.

The tournament will be continued today at the same venue with the Men’s Open singles final and the Women’s Open doubles final, commencing at 3.00 p.m.

Vibuda Wijebandara will take on Luca Knese in the Men’s Open singles final while Anika Seneviratne and Alana Seneviratne will meet the combination of Janali Manamperi and Savini Jayasuriya in the Women’s Open doubles final.
