Para athlete Indumathi receives gold medal won in 2018 after winner tested positive

Sri Lankan para athlete Amara Indumathi received her upgraded gold medal she won in the T/54/46/47 women’s long jump at the last Asian Para Games held in Jakarta in 2018 when she was bestowed with the honour at the World Para Athletic Grand Prix in Dubai last Wednesday.

The medal was confirmed by National Paralympic Committee Chairman Major General Rajitha Ampemohotti.

Indumathi who won the silver medal with 4.62m in this event was eligible for the gold medal after Uzbekistan long jumper Abdullaeya Kamolakhon was tested positive for doping.

Meanwhile the bronze medalist Iranian Zahara Bornaki with 4.51m received the silver medal while Sri Lankan Kumudu Priyanka who finished fourth with 4.41m is the bronze medallist winner.

Both Indumathi and Kumudu Priyanka were in Dubai for the World Para athletic Grand Prix.

Priyanka was third at the long jump event and placed fourth at the 100m event while Indumathi was placed fourth at the long jump event. Sri Lankan Para athletes won five gold, five silver and five bronze to finish 14th out of 43 countries at the last Asian Games.

Javelin thrower Dinesh Priyantha Herath and Samitha Dulan have already qualified for the next Paralympic Games which is scheduled to be held from August 24 to September 5 while one archer Sampath Bandara is also in.

Meanwhile two rowers and a table tennis player Dinesh Deshapriya are also aiming for the Paralympic qualification.
