Chathurya Nilaweera and Oneli Perera clinched the boys’ and girls’ Under-18 singles crowns respectively at the 105th Colombo Open Tennis Tournament, that continued at the SLTA Courts at Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha yesterday.
Nilaweera, the schoolboy from Stafford College, lived up to expectations as the favourite as he defeated Thehan Wijemanne 7-5, 6-3 in the final.
In contrast, Oneli from Asian International School, suffered an early setback losing the first set to Vishmi Serasinghe 4-6 but recovered well and went on to claim the next two sets 7-6 (4), 10-5 in the final.
Kiran Vairavanathan of the British School in Colombo and Hasali Gajaba of Visakha Vidyalaya won the boys’ and girls’ Under-16 singles titles respectively.

(Girls’): Hasali Gajaba beat Saajida Razick 6-3, 3-6, 12-10.
U-16 doubles (Girls): Dinethya Dharmaratne and Saajida Razick beat Hasali Gajaba and Minuki Wanniarachchi 6-1, 6-4.
